Temporary Break!!
Hello!! This is Ryuu, owner of this account :3
I'm here to announce that I am going back on break, as my school has just started finals week.
I will be active on my other accounts (@max-ranpoeceo & @pwuppy--teef) but I will most likely either not post at all or post very little here
(Good luck to anyone else starting finals!! Rooting for ya ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧)

Hiya!! It's DINOSAUR FACT TIME!!! The rules are very simple, I tell you a dinosaur fact, and you tell me a dinosaur fact in return! (Unless you don't want to, I don't mind if you don't have any to share)
My dinosaur fact to offer you is: The Planocraniidae, less formally known as the hooved crocodiles, are crocodyliforms discovered by Li J.L. They include the genera Duerosuchus, Boverisuchus, and Planocrania, and lived in Asia, Europe, and North America!!
I hope you enjoyed dinosaur fact time!! :]
Yay! I love dinosaur facts! Uhhh lemme think of one
It's likely that at least some dinosaurs sounded more like birds than crocodiles, because we've found a fossilized voice box from an ankylosaur and it looks more like a bird voice box than a crocodile voice box! Because birds have a syrinx to make even more sounds than a larynx alone can! Although it probably did still make some crocodile-y sounds it just wasn't stuck with those alone!

not sure if you've seen it already but you can also add some script into 'my filters' on ublock on firefox that stops youtube detecting it! i've had the popup a few times on firefox too but putting that in stopped it entirely
here's the scripts in case you haven't seen the post going around:
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)
youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)
Ah I have not seen this thank you! As of rn, Youtube doesn't seem to be able to detect ublock on Firefox normally, but it's only a matter of time before they catch up so I'll add this to be safe!
There's also another extension, AdNauseam, that I've heard tricks the Youtube filters but auto-clicking on all ads in the background. So you don't see ads, but according to Youtube, you not only saw all of them but also clicked on them too. I don't have that, but I'm keeping it in the back of my mind for when Youtube inevitably figures out how to get around ublock.

So I just got my first non-Chromebook computer in a long-ass time (because it was on sale and I needed a computer that wasn’t so old it was impossible to get work-related shit to load or my work at home days were going to start driving me out of my head), and am getting it set up.
Obviously downloading Firefox was the first thing I did, but what Firefox extensions are y’all using these days? Any recommendations for someone who’s been mostly using her phone for non-work computing use for a while and is out of the loop?

No it’s just that the mobile forms of every website are objectively worse. And it’s much easier to price compare when you can have multiple tabs open at once and then quickly flip back-and-forth. (comment courtesy of @arceus-out-of-the-waves)
.
Listen, as someone who once booked a train to Penn Station (NY) instead of Penn Station (Baltimore), I'm not ashamed of this. I need to see ALL the details. (comment courtesy of @kateeorg)
.
PSA that some companies will raise their prices IF you access the site from a phone (and especially low battery one) while buying a ride, Uber, flight, taxi, etc. (comment courtesy of @likorys-shimenawa)
.
Because phones fuck up and mobile websites are almost always dumbed down, either hiding or missing regular site features entirely. It's also easier to type and deal with page issues on a laptop. Everything loads faster and you can control popups and avoid misclicks. (comment courtesy of @ere-the-sun-rises)
.
Thinking about this more, for me it's a security thing. On my laptop I've got Firefox running with scripts scrutinized as a default, and other security add ons. On e commerce sites I'm conscious about letting the bare minimum of scripts run to make search function and allow credit card processing. I just can't be arsed to do all that on a phone even if I'm running FF for Android (comment courtesy of @gorevidalchukander)
.

Tired of Google AI on the search page?
Do you use Firefox? Take this, weary traveler.
Thank you to madamepestilence for showing me this in an unrelated reblog of hers.
May we be free.

i keep having like object level bugs in blender like a while ago i was trying to scale an object and all the axes were skewed. like not out of scale like literally it would shear as i scaled it. this isnt even a thing the program is supposed to know how to do. recently i had an object that just wouldn't mirror clip even when the setting was on and yesterday i had an object that wouldn't turn OFF mirror clipping even when i removed the mirror and i had been having problems with it before so im pretty sure it had been like that for weeks and i just hadnt realized it. if i make a new object and delete the mesh and replace it with a copy of the mesh of the bad object then it works fine but thats exactly as weird and stupid as it sounds. and i keep looking this up on ddg and blender bug forums and there is just absolutely nothing about any of this so i just have to live with it

so i poked around the mozilla forums, and the mediasource thing enables the html5 video player, which is supposed to help with the video quality, but that does mean it prefers loading in chunks instead of entire videos (just in case you decide to stop watching a 2 hour video, paused it, and then close the tab. so your browser didnt spend all that precious bandwidth on loading something you didnt even finish).
When turning off mediasource it affected my quality somewhat (though ymmv) and somehow YouTube specifically still wouldnt preload the whole video.
so if you don't wanna turn off the html5 video player you can instead try:
- changing "media.cache_readahead_limit" (how many seconds it will buffer) to a higher number. It defaults to like 60 seconds, i set it to 900 so it loads 15 minutes ahead. you can set it to 9999 to load almost every video
- change "media.cache_resume_threshold" (only start buffering further when the current buffer is shorter than X seconds) to a much higher number. it defaults to 30 seconds, but you can set it to something else to make it start loading the rest in advance while you watch.
you can also combine turning off mediasource with the above, though i'm not sure whether that'll help much
I miss the days when, no matter how slow your internet was, if you paused any video and let it buffer long enough, you could watch it uninterrupted
